A local boutique recently held a huge consignment sale of customer castoffs. I found a pair of skinny jeans in the perfect washed black for $75. Fit like a dream. By R13, which I rushed to Google. OMG, the prices! But if you have a resource to try them on in person to find your style and fit, you can stalk at second hand sites online.
I buy all my jeans from Old Navy so I was happy to see them on here! And I agree with you why is black denim so hard to find??
I honestly tried buying more expensive “higher quality” jeans and they never ever last, and if anything they break easier than the Old Navy ones. I think this is true of much of women’s clothing but especially denim, it seems there’s cheap and there’s crazy expensive but the middle tier of jeans $75-$250 is just not worth it in terms of quality.
Preach, Angela! I’ve also become an Old Navy jeans convert. I’m 5’8” and their tall sizes are perfect on me. The black OG midrize jeans are my favorite at the moment.
I always appreciate it when you include options that might work for us five-footers! Glad to know about Old Navy petites. Much better priced than my go to Madewells. Great post!
I so badly want to love black jeans. I have a flared pair of black trouser jeans and I haven't touched them in ages. I don't know what my aversion is--I should give them another go and if they don't make me feel like a million bucks, I may just donate them. I have always gravitated to a dark blue rinse. I do love these options though.
Everlane does a "washed black" that might be a little too gray for some, but I love gray too, so it works for me. Lately I've had the opposite problem—it seems to be harder to find truly pitch black jeans these days. But I don't need more jeans, so maybe it's for the best...I do love crops, even this time of year, but I have an almost pathological dislike of raw hems.
I have a pair from Everlane, The Cheeky Straight - in the colour "stormy ash" that I like. I am 5'4 so I had to have them shortened slightly so that they would have the more cropped length like on the model. They have a touch of stretch but are still firm, which I like. They have a slightly higher rise than I normally wear but I was able to sit for quite a long time in them comfortably.
I have a charcoal pair from Madewell that I’ve loved. Now I’d love a dark black pair, but I think I’ll wait until next fall as it will be too hot in Dallas soon for black jeans. AG Mari jeans are a nice slim, mid-rise.
I bought a pair of black Agolde jeans at a consignment shop and they have become my favorite jeans. I think they're the high waisted stove pipe style. You may want to give them a shot!
I've been researching my kibbe body type and I'm 5'3 and some sort of Gamine (I think soft) so cropped hems apparently suit me better - I've been wearing them lately, and I do like the look!
I've always loved black jeans but agree they look best (somehow more quality?) when they are a bit faded. I love my Aritzia "Arlo" straight black jeans, even though they are a button fly which I usually dislike. The price is decent and even though they are called Hi-rise, they hit me at the navel which seems OK. https://assets.aritzia.com/image/upload/w_1500/s25_a06_84855_16408_on_b
I just rented a wide leg pair from Unpublished Collection and I’m a little shocked at how many time I’ve worn them already. They are faded like you prefer, Kim, but I can’t decide if I wish they were a tad darker.
My biggest problem is that so often black denim is so thin and not good, sturdy denim material. It’s disappointing.

Kim I just paid off my credit card and those Frank and Eileen jeans are CALLING TO ME and you have to stop doing this to meeeeee
Yeah- knock it off Kim. :c)
I am a Frame Le Garcon gal as well, mine are from 2016 .
If I am paying high prices for denim I want a finished hem thank you.
Have a happy day friends.
Frame Le Garcon all the way! I love my grey/black ones! The most comfortable and flattering jeans I’ve found.

I’m 5’7 and have just been wearing the regulars but maybe I should try tall! I love a mid rise!
Not that it's any of my business, but are you washing them in cold water and air drying? If not, that might help. The dryer is very hard on clothing.
It is not fun when things get damaged too quickly. Though I also do like a thrashed look, with jeans.
Cold water yes but not air drying usually. That’s a good idea!
Cropped hems are super good when you are short -- I'm 5'1". I buy 'em cropped and I need no hemming!

Was going to mention these. Bought some a few months ago- first good pair of black jeans I own!

I usually just look at these for fun, it was a pleasant surprise to see a pair of jeans I could actually afford!
I submit to this fabulous list the Frame Le Garcon in the black/charcoal wash <3

I love my black/grey jeans from Universal Standard! Actually comfortable!
