That’s so funny because I may have had my first hot flash in a madewell dressing room yesterday and I got these super wide leg jeans that I told myself I was probably too old for but just thought they were so cute so whatever!
I loved Madewell until they quietly decided to decimate the plus-size selections. There is so little in an 18 there now, which is strange because they are owned by J. Crew, which has great extended sizes.
Here to tell everyone not to sleep on Madewell bags! Casual styling, minimal hardware, no logo, reasonably priced. Make a note to for sure check them out on Black Friday next year, they always have a great sale.
I will say this about Madewell purses––bought one years ago and it still looks great! I've also had good luck with their jeans. Love that satin top except for dolman sleeves––I find that sort of sleeve makes me look dumpy––I base this notion on the idea that I'm shorter than most. My daughter is 5'8"-5'9" and looks awesome in a dolman sleeve top. I am not known for my scientific reasoning. !!
I can't do a dolman sleeve either; always thought it was because I'm so small busted . . . I'm 5'7" with longish arms and torso. My daughters are bustier and they look great in the style!
I absolutely agree with your sentiment but I am also laughing as I just experienced a store where I could have been gifted anything I wanted and wouldn't have been able to find anything...but my 14 yr old daughter and her friend begged for it all. The aesthetic is sort of LoveShackFancy meets Japanese Kawaii street culture? Cotton candy colors, shrunken silhouettes, tiny prints of cherrys/flowers/smiley faces, ruffles, mini-length skirts with oversized marshmallow sweaters. A certain kind of teen girl heaven
My problem with denim skirts isn't the shape, it's the denim. I like denim for jeans, of course, but for whatever reason, I don't like it for anything else. (Denim jackets are fine, but not really my style.) That said, I do own a denim dress in a washed black that I fell in love with, though I haven't worn it yet. And the circle skirt here is pretty great. Love the crescent bag and the satin top, too. If I weren't about to be unemployed again, I'd get the satin top in that lovely cool blue.
lol I always flash back to 70's/80's "elementary school teacher" with denim skirts. Or "sister wives" - very modest, strict religious rules that don't allow women to wear pants . . .
LOL. I think denim skirts can be smart and modern (I esp. like the A-line leaning with the button down front), but that circle skirt does make me think "Stevie Nicks" (not that there's anything wrong with that, but just not my aesthetic) and a do-si-do dance thing.
If you are in the neighborhood and looking for gifts, Madewell is currently also having a great sale on makeup (I think! Or maybe for traveling jewelry) bags and wallets. They are great quality leather.
Love the satin shirt, especially in white. Striped t is nice too. Tie neck top is my fave here. Used to go to Madewell all the time with a friend who liked to shop there. But now she's a certain age. Maybe she oughta look again.
Madewell is my go-to for jeans, as a very short person with thick thighs. I've found their sizing to be super consistent, too, which makes it easy to buy from them online. I've bought some of my favorite sweaters there, and their plain whisper tees are the best. They had a few years where they skewed too young and trendy, but it seems like lately they've gone back to their classic but cooler than JCrew vibe that attracted me to them in the first place. Love that pea coat.
I went on a little madewell sweater splurge last year and I feel like for the prices especially, the quality was terrible. They do have some cute things and are great on a sale but sometimes I walk in and just feel like it’s all so boring and/or expensive for what it’s. But to be honest I feel this way about a lot of stores lately so it’s probably me! 🤦♀️

So many of my clothes are J.crew for that very reason.
That pea coat is 50% off at this moment.

Too old to shop at ??? No… you can always find something ….

That sounds like Wet Seal of my early 20s!

You’re right about that denim skirt, Kim France. It might even work well with a number of your party-in-a-top suggestions.

I’m looking for a nice flowing satin shirt. The one from Maxwell looks comfy and what I’m going for..,

These look nice but Madewell’s quality has been declining as their prices stay the same or increase. Check out the Madewell subreddit for discussion.
How in the world would you sit in that leather skirt?! The pupik would be showing!
