The Amazon Orolay jacket I bought several years ago hangs there in my basement, looking beautiful like Japanese art, but the zipper is a piece of shit.
Just a heads up on the Adidas/Stella collaboration––I tried on some leggings in my size that were so tiny I couldn't pull them up properly. Even when I tried on two sizes larger they were so tight in the waist as to be extremely uncomfortable. That was exercise leggings, maybe the jackets are sized better because that one is a beauty!
ok i am trying the aritzia...because i have to face the fact that i will never spring for the montcler i just can't do it. but i'm actually in serious "need" for a "nicer looking" midlength and the aritzia is the closest i've seen...how's the fit?
i love the orolay but the small is a bit too small and the medium is a bit too big so i end up layering a ton underneath and resemble a little kid who can't put their arms down hahah i love it for dog walking and i call it my "purse jacket" because you don't need a purse with it but i'm hoping for a tiny bit more chicness (if there is any of that to be had in this season!)
I think they're both kind of nice looking. I maybe liked the non-shiny one more. I try not to give what's his name more money but sometimes it's hard to avoid. Anyway, perhaps he is on an evolving path. Who knows.
I bought my first puffer this year. I've avoided them till now, but my trusty old parka got too decrepit to wear, and puffers seem slightly less puffy nowadays, so I bought one from Everlane. I wanted the longer puffer from Quince, but they discontinued the caramel color that I liked, so I got the Everlane equivalent without realizing that it's down rather than polyfill. This created a bit of a moral dilemma because there's really no way to make down cruelty-free, but at least i bought it used...and it is so warm and snuggly! And now I'm eyeing the Orolay one, in the shiny red, but I'm not sure I can do down again. It is gorgeous, though, and I could use a jacket that length.
Back in the 70’s…in SOHO, Tamala Design had a shawl collar, Velcro closure, full length, fully reversible one! Sage green poplin on one side, black nylon on the other. I worked for them and lived in that coat taking the bus from the UWS downtown.
I am glad to be reminded of Aritzia. I find their clothes to be of good value, and I really appreciate the colors. When I looked at the puffers, some of them come in a "Rainstop: fabric. I love seeing a coat that is warm and can stand up to rain.
After 11 years in Alaska, I’m moving back to NY in June and I’m so excited for a future that requires winter coats that lean slightly more fashionable than super warm. This list got me a bit giddy.
I have a thing for orange too. It does not go with me, particularly. Yet I may not let that stop me for long. (As an aside, I am reading the Betty Halbreich books and enjoying them. She doesn't seem to like strict color rules, so, I am getting a pep talk.) (And boy howdy do I need one.)
This is a very fun post. We are having fires here, though it is not warm (for here), so it's kind of nice to imagine having a good excuse to have a hot chocolate (which I do irregardless) (if i used that correctly - I am easily confused!!)
I'm sure those in NYC see The Amazon Jacket coming and going. Here in the Midwest I rarely do, which I take to mean it's really not 'that' warm. It always looks strange to me, the multiple layers at the bottom, the huge pockets, the long drawstrings. It's not especially flattering, either (although when it's really cold, who cares). That shiny one could be a Yikes in person.
As a size 18/20 I’m a fan of Universal Standards puffers. I have 2 with a third coming. They are cute and warm.
I agree, and was going to include the Kanda puffer, but it was sold out in most colors/sizes.
I have the US long puffer (end of season clearance a couple years ago!) and it is my favorite. I call it my “sleeping bag” coat.
They are soft too.
I ordered one of those just last week! For $25!!!!! Timing is everything!

Maybe a dry cleaner place could put in a new zipper for you?

Pretty TTS
Living in New England puffers are de rigeur! I have a vast collection to which I'm always adding, swapping out and changing. Ordered this little beauty yesterday w/ a price point that's unbeatable but a style that's a little more sleek than the average puffer. I hope it arrives soon as I might have to wear one at my desk...it's Minus 2 out this morning! https://www.quince.com/women/featherless-quilted-long-puffer-jacket?color=admiral&utm_medium=email&utm_source=transactional&utm_campaign=2023_03_27_orderConfirmation&utm_content=2023_03_27_orderConfirmation_triggerWorkflowAPI&campaignid=10820010
Orolay is 100% worth it. Especially since the trendiness has probably passed? BEST dog walking coat! Comfortable and warm. Pockets upon pockets...

I swear by the Super Puff too!

I'm Midwest and its warm! I bought one for my daughter a few years ago and wear it on occasion.
A few years ago, you would see them all the time. Now, not so much. I went to school in Vermont and still live in the Northeast-that coat is WARM!
