Am I the only person who finds struggling in and out of a one piece just torture? Give me a tankini each and every time- coverage of a 1 piece, ease and mix and match sizing of a bikini.
I surprised myself last year when I shopped for new swimsuits after realizing I hadn’t bought a new one-piece in over ten years. I ended up with a one-shoulder style and a zip-front style. I’m a member of the big-boob club, and somehow those manage to look a little sexy-sporty while containing the girls well. I’m 59, short in the torso, and thickening in the waist, so I was dreading the swimsuit search, but I’m glad I braved trying some newer styles. Just to encourage any of you who default to the same thing for years and years!
I was excited to see a Lands' End option here. I have been pretty much exclusively buying bathing suits from them for the past 10 years or so -I'm 58 years old. I don't know why they aren't featured more in "swimsuit" spreads. Their suits are comfortable, classy, and last FOREVER. They have fantastic sales (there's one on right now), and I basically get a couple of things almost every year when they go on sale.
I keep to a black and white color theme and buy separates. I love their surf shorts-I can walk my dogs along the beach, go in for a dip, and then just dry off as I walk them, without feeling self-conscious about being in my bathing suit. I also love their swim skirts. I have a couple of them, and they are great if you are at a cottage where you swim, get out and have a cocktail or two, then go back in the water. I've worn one of their halter tankinis with a swim skirt into restaurants and they look like a cute dress! I also love the bottoms with the adjustable tie sides-you can make them as high-cut as you like and they are sooo flattering!
Another shout out to Lands End — they are one of the very few companies that offer decent-looking mastectomy swimsuits that can be worn by women who didn’t or couldn’t have breast reconstruction after surgery. They have been doing this since the company’s early days. Talk about supporting ALL women
I have the Left on Friday suit in teal; I have had it for two years and it has held up well. It is quite simple (no wires, no molded cups), but the fabric is magical. Check the website because there are lots of photos of real people wearing the suits and their size guide is spot on.
I believe I’ve mentioned these before, but I bout a pair of Slipin leggings a couple of years ago and every time I wear them swimming a woman will ask me where I found them. They were originally made to wear under a wetsuit thus helping you to “slip in” to the wetsuit. They have leggings and full body options. Just google “slipins” to learn more. Certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but worth checking out!
Here is the 67-year-old question. What do you recommend when breasts are heavy and sagging- what swimsuit supports them up (being key) and in? For a bra I use Walcoal and it is magical... but swimsuits are where my disconnect is. Nothing seems to be engineered to do the work.
I would recommend trying the Andie snap-front style Kim links to here! I have large boobs and a thickening waist. The suit has a compression area in the middle which keeps the girls from sliding down, and the snaps let you choose your va-va-voom level. It is the sexiest I’ve felt in a swimsuit in years! I particularly recommend the ribbed fabric.
Try Freya swimwear; it is a British company but many of the large swimsuit sites stock it. They focus on swimwear for larger breasts and not horribly frumpy. I own 2 of their swimsuits and love them.
And Kim, I hope jury duty went well and while I miss you when you don't post I also appreciate how much you do post! Not that you need any permission, but no need to apologize when life gets in the way.
You might be able to wear a regular bra under the red Quince zip front suit in this post. I don’t have big boobs but I never like the support built into most bathing suits. (What do I know? I haven’t bought a bathing suit since the early aughts cause I don’t like to swim or hang out on a beach.) Wearing a sleeveless zip front leotard with a bra has worked for me.
Interestingly enough i wear a black bra under my black one piece. It looks a little strange but the support is well worth it. I had to do this while triathlon training years ago, and just never stopped. But I'm currently in an area that wearing a bra under my suit draws too much attention and recently unwanted conversation. Does anyone just mind their own business these days?
Appreciate seeing options with high backs. Flexibility issues make it difficult to apply sunscreen to my own back and I don't always have another person handy to help apply sunscreen. Love suits with high backs to give that sun protection, but they are surprisingly hard to find!
I stick with the vice grip of Miraclesuits! They are a bitch to get in and out of, but I stay with them because tankini tops float to the pool surface like a Marilyn Monroe dress over a subway grating!
I dove back into swimsuit shopping earlier in the year, and was surprised and delighted by the suit I got from Une Piece. It's an Aussie brand, and not free, but they have great shaping, lovely fabrications and are...MIRACLE...true to size.
So helpful! I dove back into swimsuit shopping this year too, and found that Une Piece (Australian brand) was really, really good...lots of shaping but not a Spanx of the Sea.
I've only ever bought Tyr and Speedo one-pieces because when I swim, it's lap swimming in a pool. But I'm loving a lot of these styles, especially the romper and the Sea Level one from Nordstrom. Might be rethinking my approach this summer!
I really like the SummerSALT one. I'll have to see if it is good for keeping your boobs off your stomach.
I have to choose between saggy boobs or something with enough strapping to keep them in place! I have a stunning black 1/4 zip long sleeved/mock turtleneck from Lands End and it is spf 50 and I love it. I feel comfortable and I also like trying to protect myself from the sun with that extra bit on top of the spf 50 I already apply everywhere. Although I wish it had chest support.

Thanks for this headsup. These look great.

I'll check it out, thank you. Im willing to try anything so I feel better at pool parties.

I did not like Freya bras, but willing to experiment with the swimwear.

Which bra do you like????? Ty
Walcoal!!! Underwire, uplifting, and engineered for older women with extra support.

Yes, Kim, get the high waisted two piece! It’s so cute and you would look great in it.
Some really good finds here. I love that red one!
The crochet one is on sale for 60% off!

I love the surfer style and that long sleeve two piece. And although you didn’t show any (not a criticism) I prefer tankinis.
I have the Left on Friday suit in espresso brown (teal shown) and it’s sensational :)
That teal is divine!
