Kim, I’m commenting on your podcast. You mentioned wanting to stop ordering from Amazon. I canceled my Amazon Prime account a year ago. I discovered that Target does online shopping in a much better way. Their product list is smaller but better curated. I always select standard shopping but somehow my order usually is delivered next day. I am so happy that I made the change.

Same!! I keep the Target app on my phone, add things as I need them, and once I get to $35, I hit 'send'. (Last week I added a box of Kleenex to get to $35!) Stuff arrives within 2 days and I agree, there is much less junk cluttering the site. I don't need 5,000 options for, like, hair ties or toilet bowl cleaner.

Just be careful that its not items from a 3rd party seller. I have learned the hard way to always filter by "Target brands". I was told in a Target chat that the shipping was free if I ordered from store (3rd party) but in fact when I put in my credit card at Customer Service I was charged shipping. Not sure if returns/refunds are also under a diff. policy?

Same here. Target has been a good option for me. I also find I am not buying as much now that I don’t use Amazon. I also moved to StoryGraph from Goodreads to keep track of what I read and want to read.

Is Goodreads bad now? I don't use mine so much.

Goodreads is owned by Amazon. I am trying to de-amazon these days.

Kim, I don't know you, but from reading your blog for years I sense that if anyone needs a stylish weed box, it's you! :-)

Starting today, I'm on a spending diet for political reasons. I feel like withholding my money from the world for the next 4 years. I don't want to punish manufacturers and retailers and bloggers for things out of their control, but I'm expecting higher prices and I'm not going to just say, "Oh, well..." and help the economy to thrive under Trump. I'm no macroeconomist, but money talks. I will welcome counterarguments, ya'll. I'm in a baaaaaad mood.

I’m on a spending diet for the next four years as well. I’m going to keep my money as local as possible and shop small and/or secondhand if at all. Doing my part to not support the economy under trump. Have also logged out of meta apps and will not be supporting any Bezos-owned companies either. Fuck em all.

I may be the only person who does not find those High Sport pants to be flattering at all. They were certainly not on me. They are thick, and I don't think an ankle flare is good on anyone except super tall, lithe folks.

Actually, I'm super tall and somewhat lithe, and this style pant looks ridiculous on me. It's like the pants shrunk and I couldn't find a replacement.

I'll chime in , I'm a 27/28 five foot 4. no pant is worth the "newsletter" pant price in my opinion. Not even a fine wool hand sewn by italian orphans in the alps. In an effort to find a good "flight suit" as my sweetie calls it, I embarked on a High Sport dupe search. Of the 7 pairs I got, the Old Navy and Banana won. Got the taupe at Old Navy, regular S, and black at Banana in a petite M. (Returned, JCrew, Donni, Ann Mashburn, Quince and Theory.) There is a spot that really makes them a no go around the ankle. I loved them in summer Italy with flat sandals but wore them Saturday with a black lug chelsea boot for a flight to east coast and felt sorta cool-adjacent. https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=445853&vid=1&autosuggest=true&searchText=ponte%20&position=0&results=6#pdp-page-content

Search goes on to find a pair with back pockets! Hello world reading this, stretchy ponte pants with back pockets for your phone is important. (28 pairs returned to date, no joke...2018 amazon basics black jeggings have served this nicely but they have faded enough now to not leave house. sssh, yes really amazon jeggins I swear, they look like good jeans, not like leggings.)

Happy shopping , or at least reading about shopping ladies in case you are trying not to buy stuff like me. ;c)

I agree. The prices people are willing to pay for a pair of pants boggles the mind.

I am far from lithe but bought a similar ponte version of these cropped kick flare’s from US and they actually look cute on me. Maybe it is a matter of proportion because I’m 5 foot 7 but longer in the leg proportionally and cropped pants seem to suit me.

I'm 5'5" and really like the way that crop kick flares look on me. I avoided flares for the longest time because I'm old enough to remember how terribly uncool they seemed in the '70s, but I'm semi-obsessed with them now.

I have a knockoff of the stash box that CB2 did a couple years ago. It’s hot pink. May have to get the real one too!

I ordered the Emerson Fry caftan before I finished reading the description. I'm flying to St. Thomas at the end of February and my other Emerson Fry caftan is on the east coast. I find these caftans to be the PERFECT travel lounge/robe iteration for any destination.

Kim, great roundup. I wanted almost everything this time. Planning a spring trip to Italy and the silk top looks so versatile, as do the Alex MIll pants.

No need to pay High Sport prices for a good pair of kick-flare ponte pants. I own pairs by Everlane, Vince, and Spanx—all excellent quality, highly flattering, and a fraction of the price. I love the look, have worn it for years.

I've been doing the same, but with Walmart. They also have subscriptions available on some items. I also ditched my Kindle for the Rakuten Kobo - virtually the same device, just non-Amazon. Still haven't figured out how to transfer all my Kindle books, but at least I'm not buying any new ones from Amazon.

Casually, out of nowhere, "I store my weed in a plain, boring box." Bwahaha! I vote yes, absolutely, buy the very cool Year of the Snake box! Love it!

I got the sample size perfume version of Portrait of a Lady to enjoy without the bigger bottle price commitment. If I’m feeling in the mood for a subtle patchouli scent in the air, I’ll do a load of laundry using Zum Detergent in Patchouli.

Listening to the most recent podcast; I got kybella and it really did work. You look like a bullfrog for a few days & it’s a little painful (kinda burning/aching for a short time) but it works. Dr Anne Chapas at Union Square Laser Dermatology is the bestttttttttttt and she won’t oversell you on anything

Are the Me and Em jeans very long? When I look at their site, I find the clothes so cute, but they also seem like they're made for very tall people. I'm a shortie at 5'2" and tailoring flares to my length often means getting rid of any flare.

Expand full comment

Yes, they are very long. I had to get them tailored.

This is the first I’ve seen you recommend a non-wool jumper! Wool and I have serious issues. Wobbling on the price but it is very pretty.

I had to stop toking about 18 months ago (new medication = bad interaction). It’s in an air tight Tupperware and still smells quite fresh!

I can vouch for these boxes. Not used for weed, but very high quality, beautiful and so much better priced.

I owe my undying love for Portrait of a Lady to Kim's mention of it a year or so ago. I love it so much that I can barely stand to wear any other scent. It's not overwhelming or stuffy the way both rose and patchouli can be on their own. It's just mysterious and magical. Also eye-wateringly expensive, so I use it very sparingly.
