Well, this post came right in time to lift my spirits. I ordered the Madewell bag and the Yeti water bottle. They should arrive right when I was going to leave for my annual beach trip, which got cancelled for sick-family-member reasons. I will instead enjoy Beach Week At Home: I'll camp out on my little deck, read a good book ("The Houseguest" by Kim Brooks) and drink Dill Pickle Lemonade (add 3 tablespoons dill pickle brine to lemonade -- delicious!). I'll wear a different beach caftan/dress every day because I have a nice collection and I won't have to pack only a couple of them. I will go through an entire tube of sunscreen. I will eat shrimp cocktails and Lays potato chips. If I've learned nothing else in my old age, it's how to adjust to cancelled plans. Happy Summer, ya'll.
I hate to be that person, but please do not rely on spray sunscreens. You likely do not get the advertised protection by spraying, unless you spray up to 40-50 times. It is also extremely wasteful. Michelle Wong from Labmuffin Beauty Science, a science communicator focused on skin care, tested this. From her testing only about 30-50% of the product (depending on indoor/outdoor application, wind conditions, distance, etc.) of the actual spray lands on your face/body and even then, it doesn't go on an even layer.
All I can say, Katrina, is that I spent three days in Jamaica recently, a lot of that spent in the water, and I was well-protected. And of course I rub in the sunscreen evenly after I spray it!
I live in Miami and put on cream sunscreen before I leave the house and then spray throughout the day. I also use a sunscreen stick and put it on my face and the back of my hands all day, plus leave one in the car for driving. My derm recommended this and I've never had a spot removed and am fair skinned.
I literally said, "Are you F*cking kidding me?" when I saw those water shoes. These might be the most genius thing I have ever seen posted. Also, love everything else you posted because it feels very K. France. Especially the water bottle. I hope you bought it!
It’s a little thing, but thanks so much for the Sun Bum lip balm rec! I’ve been looking for a while for one with mineral sunscreen (less irritating to my rosacea-prone skin), no fragrance (same), and no controversial chemicals like parabens and oxybenzone. Would wear it with that great-looking long gauze shirtdress :)
I bought the Andie swimsuit "Bond girl" style in white - the color looks really good on very pale skin.Thank you for the recommendatin. Also, I found out that I had a long torso. Went through life blissfully ignorant of said fact.
Re sun protection - if I'm not mistaken, most new cars should come with glass that protects you from the UV's - but, I would check if I were you. (I had some clear film added to my old car. I do think it helps.)
And don't forget rash guards, which can come in SPF fabrics.
And same with a nice big golf umbrella.
I find putting on sunscreen annoying but I do it anyway. I am never sure that they work that well - seems like some color sneaks through anyway.
Thanks for bringing up mineral lip balms. I am looking too. I gave up on mineral sunscreens generally though.
I did a very brief snoop recently, and I got the impression that nobody is really that sure if the "reef safe" ingredients are in fact reef safe. Of course there is no harm in trying I suppose. (It's all easy for me to say because I don't like to go out in the sun anyway.)
I love that bag. I’ve been admiring it for weeks. But it’s really just 5 granny squares and it’s hard for me to spend that kind of money on something that I could easily make myself. Of course it doesn’t mean I will given that i haven’t even researched supplies. Ha!

I have always hated the look of water shoes but those espadrilles are about to drop into my shopping cart.
I've owned them for years and they are great and have held up really well!

Me too! And I just bought them!

A note, I've used the Sun Bum lip balm and found it wore off very quickly - I had to reapply constantly. I prefer the Banana Boat and Nivea ones.
Thanks! I ordered one, but will look for these others and compare.

This was AMAZING! Love the peek into your beach day!
Ok… the breezy cotton caftan… what up with the models leg?
I ❤️ the gauzy cotton shirt dress too…
That's hilarious—adventures in photoshopping!
oh my god! Her leg is backwards!
I try never to insult my water bottles, but if you insist... : )

I bought espadrille water shoes from Sea Star a few years ago. I will have to check out the ones from Lands End, as they are much cheaper. Thank you!

The Madewell straw tote is a work of art.
PLEASE recommend ‘reef safe’ sunscreen. It’s vital to our oceans that if we are in them, we aren’t leaving behind harmful chemicals.

That bag is great, and I'd really like to be on a beach right now!
