If I may do a brief suggestion from my little stationery & gift shop - Iām really hoping to see these fun iridescent umbrellas out and about. I do ship š
Short trench coats seem to be having a moment and I'm there for it. I look dumpy in a regular trench coat so one that's waist length (or a tad longer) seems a good option. Now if I could just find one that is not olive green or beige (horrible colors against my skin) I'd be enTRENCHed in heaven (see what I did there?) By the way, the Washington Post had an article on having your colors done. The two big takeaways for me: can't rely on an app for getting your colors done it's something that should be done in person and even then it's subjective and colors have to be revisited now and again because of hair going grey etc.
I live in a city and need a long, attractive raincoat for getting to and from work on rainy days. I'd love to see a post on long raincoats. Aside from the typical boring trench.
Talbots of all places (because I will never get over a Washington Post story from 30-plus years ago describing Oliver North's wife as having "gone full Talbots") has a gorgeous bright blue trench on sale just now so you can walk around singing Leonard Cohen to yourself. Also they have a bright pink short trench that is so good if you can do bright pink.
Inspired by an upcoming trip to London in May, I finally pulled the trigger on the Marimekko umbrella. I've also been searching for a trench for years, one that's petite-friendly, single breasted, and in a color that doesn't make me look like death (like CW, beige and olive are tricky with my skin tone). Love the Barbour one but its sold out at Nordstrom. But I'm committed to getting something before we leave.
That Barbour short trench is fantastic, though sold out at Nordstrom, alas. I don't usually carry an umbrella if I can help it, especially when I walk the dogs, because I have a hand tremor and mild arthritis in my hands. Last summer I got a bucket hat to wear in light to moderate rain, and it's great! They look cute, too.
during the pandemic i embraced the rain hat and have not looked back. so much easier than an umbrella, and you are hands free. i now have a collection of 3, one with a fleece lining, and 2 others because we all like a little variety
I love my Barbour jacket and it's reversible, I always feel very put together! I also have a 10 plus year old short trench coat I am bringing out of closet retirement!
Oo, that packable puffer. Tres sportif and in so many good colors-! See, these posts are why I have a hall closet stuffed, just crammed, with jackets and coats. I live in the desert; there is no winter and there is no rain. I go on trips and i can only take one, not twelve. I am plagued by wishful jacketing.
I like that Dusen Dusen umbrella a lot but now that I live in the suburbs and get around by car (and donāt have a dog) itās mostly a dash from door to door without an umbrella.
I have some rain clogs from Joules that have the cutest floral pattern and while they arenāt great for rainy day activities, they are perfect for quick errands or letting the dog out.

That is super cute, but it doesn't look at all waterproof? I don't understand why they make raincoats you can't wear in the rain.
Very cool!

Ooh, what about treating yourself to one in London itself? the Brits have rain gear down, and it could be a nice way to remember your trip.

Who knows if the quality has held up through the Era of Enshittification, but my 15-year-old Marimekko umbrella is still going strong.
"Enshittification" is hilarious.
It's a great term, although I can't take credit for it. It was coined by Cory Doctorow: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification#cite_note-BlogCoinage2022-1

Yay, a cross-hemisphere post that's equally applicable to spring AND autumn š
I've been on the hunt for a tiny, cute sun umbrella. I'm sick of flattening my hair with hats. Any ideas?
Wow... the Barbour jacket is very cool.
