Thanks for this post, Kim! It made me reminisce about the burgundy corduroy pencil skirt I made in 8th grade Home-Ec in the late seventies. I loved that skirt! I never figured out the button hole- so it did not have a waist closure- but I wore it anyway and I thought I was the coolest!
Looking at these photos always makes me wish I had skinny little ankles. Mine are fine, but skinny little ankles just look so much better in trousers and skirts. Oh, duh, nevermind, with all the shit going on around the world. Just a passing comment. xo
That’s what held your attention? Really? I mean, I can’t stop obsessing over the fact that these clothes look like they were yanked straight out of a church jumble box. You know, the kind where even the moths turn up their noses.
This is a sizing rant...I have three pair of cord jeans from J.Crew. All three are the same size. Two pair are grey one pair "gold' or camel. All three are listed as "vintage slim straight." None of them are the exact same measurements. Even the length is different! However, I love cord jeans so I wear all three all winter long. Oy and Egad.
I think it is good that you are keeping us informed, because online behavior matters.
Yet, we should also keep in mind that almost always, when people say things like this it is because they are very upset. Maybe we should interpret it more as people "venting." Rather than as considered policy statements. (Like on Perry Mason - the person who shouts, "I'm going to kill you" is practically never the one who actually did it.)
Also, she's not 100% wrong about Cali government. There is a large nut factor here. I love us ... but it's still true.
I hope we will see people walk back the really out-there statements.
Like the Perry Mason reference! It is way too early to decide what is or is not misinformation in this terrible, catastrophic tragedy. As far as I can tell, Foster lives in LA and is dissatisfied with the leadership and said so. I personally don’t find that destructive, just her opinion.
One of my favorite items of clothing is a thrifted, Sherpa-lined, jacket in wide wale corduroy! It’s the coziest ever, and I get compliments every time I wear it, cuz people love corduroy!
Also, on another subject entirely... Those Negative Bras that Kim posted the other day...mine arrived and for a normal get up, get dressed, run errands everyday bra they are positively the sexiest undergarment I've purchased in AGES. AND comfortable!! Highly, highly recommended even if, like me, you are single and the only person who will ever see you in one is yourself, you will feel on top of the effing world! LOVE THEM. (and probably going back for one more!)
I agree with your astute comment that light colored cords should be a bit baggy. I have a caramel colored pair that I wear with a black belt. They are one size larger than my normal size and wouldn’t work at all smaller.
Really dig the Quince straight legs and the double breasted blazer. Still searching for wide whale red cords. Or any wide whale cords that aren't wide leg.
That Eileen Fisher jacket is on it's way to me. I've been eying corduroy jackets for a while, and this one seems perfect! I got a pair of excellent teal cord trousers from Banana Republic outlet this fall and they've been amazing.

Rude!

I hate to do this (and have not ever done it) but the owner of Favorite Daughter has been posting really terrible and divisive things about the LA Fires (not to mention misinformative). I just thought you might want to know, given the situation. https://www.newsweek.com/karen-bass-palisades-california-fire-sara-foster-celebrities-2012526
Oh yikes. Good to know.

Isn’t Sara Foster the daughter of wealthy composer David Foster?
I don't know, I just read about her connection to Favorite Daughter, and that she is an actress (though I couldn't find anything she had worked on).

That sounds great.

Ive been eyeing those Quince pants for a while. I’ve had really good luck with almost everything I’ve bought there.
When I was in high school, I sewed my own wide wale brown corduroy poncho which I wore until it disintegrated. 🤎
I love corduroy — it makes everything yummier. I had a corduroy blazer that I LIVED in back in college. The wider the wale, the better.
The wider the wale the better!

My daughter got me this for Christmas and i have been wearing it nonstop! It has pockets on the side seams and is just exactly the right weight. https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/124462?page=comfort-corduroy-relaxed-shirt-long-sleeve-womens-regular
Cute off white cords but the first thing that popped into my head was, "Are they actually slouchy or only slouchy on her because she is a size zero?"
This reminds me of one of my fave Donovan songs, "Little Boy in Corduroy"

Only yesterday I was wondering if I should get a shorter puffer and then this very cool corduroy one in today’s email! My coat problem continues…
