I had a badly sprained ankle last year and found that my only relief in the months of recovery was wearing the extremely hideous, but highly supportive, Birkenstock Boston clogs. I bought a pair for indoor use only and now that my foot is better, I still love them! I was always stubbing my toes in regular slippers, and Bostons are stub-proof. If it's cold I just wear socks with 'em. Also want to say, as a person whose fabulous sweater collection was devastated by a multi-year moth attack, THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS WILL ALSO GO AFTER YOUR WOOL SLIPPERS. They will feast on your fleece. They will gobble up your Glerups. They will bone your LL Beans. I should probably stop now.

When your house shoes get more wear than your outside shoes. 😬

It's like pandemic lockdown all over again

Now the question is how many house shoes are too many? I want at least 4 from this list!

🤣🤣I wondered the same thing!

I have the bootie version of the Glerups and they are terrific. I live in Canada in an old drafty house and never take them off in winter.

Hi! Did you size up or take your usual size?

Usual size!

Same on the Glerup boots! I adore them.

Another Canadian Glerups bootie wearer. After years of daily wear I am now on my second pair. First ones were leather sole, now I have the rubber sole. Both are great, but found the leather soles became slippery after time and wear.

Would you consider (if you haven't already) doing a similar write-up on gloves and/or mittens? I struggle to find a pair of either that aren't deeply uncool. I have a cashmere pair from Quince that are fine, and the price was certainly right, but I have doubts they will hold up very long.

I have bought the Quince gloves multiple times. They only last one season unfortunately. I'm on my third pair. I wish they lasted longer because they are so soft and warm, but they do get holes after after everyday wear.

They are sooo soft! And you can't beat the price. But I had a feeling they would wear how you describe. Unfortunate!

I just got my Glerups a few weeks ago and can attest to their comfort as well as their durability.

I love Glerups. I have all three styles and alternate among them. I definitely prefer the soft-soled (leather) version because they are quiet. I hate noisy, clunky slippers!

Timely indeed. I love the llbean elf shoes (especially in green they look like elf shoes). But I just bought some shiny gold indoor/outdoor mocassins from J.crew on sale for when I’m feeling fancy. Also from bombas I’m currently wearing the sock slippers that are almost too warm but can be washed and with a gripper sole so you don’t kill yourself on hardwood floors

I would wear the Birks and Rothys out of the house as well. My big house shoe splurge are beek's Gallito Shearling Slide Sandal. I will also wear them out and about with jeans, skirts, you name it. Perfect for in between seasons and whacky climate change weather here in the WNC mountains:)

Glerups are the bomb. Love love love. About to replace my 5 year old pair because I literally wore a hole in the wool.

Is there a difference between "house shoes" and "slippers"?

The Bombas, the boucle clogs, and the black+ white zigzag slippers get my vote.

Love this category/topic. As we spend more time at home - winter, WFH, aging, feeling comfy and grounded is important and worthy of a good investment. Thanks, Kim and all!

Well, these just about complete my outdoor pajama uniform! xo

I’ve been wearing the same pair of Birkenstock Zermatts for the last 6 years and they are still awesome. If anyone is on the fence about them, go for it! You will not be disappointed!

I have been desperately seeking slippers/house shoes that meet a very specific combo of requirements: 1) closed heel (not mule) so I don't kill myself going down stairs; 2) soles soft enough to put up on the couch but still anti-slip and relatively supportive; 3) cozy but not too hot for the fake semi-winter we get in the upper South.

Any recs?

Yes, the soft-soled Glerups, in the model Kim has shown, or the higher boot style.
