Popular wisdom holds that women should wear less makeup as they grow older, but I find this to be hard advice to follow. I put more makeup on my face than I ever have in the past. Which only makes sense, because I need it more: my brows and lashes aren’t what they used to be, just for starters, and my face in its pristine fashion just generally looks more faded than it used to. The trick, always, is to not look like you’re wearing much makeup. If you are very bad at applying it, as I am, my first and most important rule for any product is that it is simple to use. Everything here fits that bill.
I don’t bother with foundation anymore now that I use Kosas sunscreen in its more deeply tinted iteration, Dream Beam. It evens me out, and makes my face look ever so slightly tan.
Next, I use Milk Kush Fiber Gel on my nonexistent brows: I’ve tried a lot of brow gels, and most of them end up looking kind of fake. But this one comes off pretty natural, as long as you don’t abuse it.
My favorite eyeshadow is this option, in a shade called Penny, which is currently sold out on the Jones Road site (the link here will take you to Liberty of London, the only place I could find it). But I also like this matte smokey grey, which actually is available at Jones Road.
I am a disaster with most eye pencils, and find that old-school literal pencil kinds—like that you need to sharpen—are the most mistake-proof, from my perspective. I’m currently using this one.
Tarte Fake Awake is a miracle product: line your lower lid (or waterline) with it when your eyes are looking tired and irritated, and presto! You will suddenly look a lot more well-rested.
Essence Lash Princess is my favorite cheap mascara—just $4.99 a tube—and one of my favorite mascaras of all time. It does a great job of volumizing, and goes on really clean.
If I’m in the mood for a little drama, I’ll layer some Milk Kush mascara over the Lash Princess.
I’m wearing Jones Road Lip Tint in the picture here, in a shade called pink rose.
For a little more pop, I’ll go for Sisley Phyto Lip Twist in #25, Soft Berry.
Why does nobody inform us that we are literally going to FADE?
I propose a menopause movie that explains this shit the same way that "girls only" film in fifth grade explained periods (Wasn't there a happy animated sperm swimming up a Fallopian tube? Only to find some other sperm had beat him to the egg?) This film would talk about lube and blusher and HRT. Who's in?
I like Jones Road too and am especially fond of the lip and cheek tint. One fat stick that goes on, well, lips and cheeks. Great for travel or to stick in your pocket on a night out. I use Tawny Nude but also have a fun pink one for summer.
