And is it me or is my intense desire to own a pair of madras pants off the wall crazy. (please tell me it isn't crazy because I just ordered a pair of vintage madres pants I found on gem.app)
I normally wear a 2 or 4 in pants, ordered those in 16 and 18 and kept the 18 because I wanted a slouchy fit. I’m about 5’6” and the length is perfect. I wear them with a linen v-neck or a navy button down tucked in, Clergerie olive green raffia oxfords and, because I often have a psychological need to clash, a huge Fendi kiss lock bag I’ve had for almost 20 years. My affection for preppy style will never die. Hope yours work out. I could do a lot of damage with vintage jewelry on the gem site. Thanks.
You are hilarious, Mimi! I didn't even think about boys pants!! Brilliant. And I love the outfit description. Agree about the vintage jewelry on gem.app. I found a fantastic Eddie Bauer brown leather jacket on the site last fall for about $30. and it is awesome. One of those sites you have to weed through, but some really stellar buys available if you are persistent. Now I want a skirt with sequins. I don't even look good in skirts, but I want one. (eye rolling emoji here)
I’ve been craving a men’s wool robe with fancy piping trim and found one or two possibilities on gem. Their search filters are good. Last summer I snagged an ‘80s men’s XS madras sports jacket that only needed a little tailoring and a big Ralph Lauren madras shawl that I wear as a pareo/skirt. And one more: a madras pleated cummerbund that’s great on summer dresses. A sequin skirt could be fun.
Great dresses! Not sure why I have an aversion to dresses that have big buttons all the way down—Toast makes so many even though I love the brand. Maybe it triggers a memory of dowdy FLAX clothing of the 1990s?
I have a couple of lightweight black dresses that are in heavy rotation this summer, despite the heat. I've been eyeing the Quince dress for a while, but I like the Cos dress even better. And the polo is great too.
I wear black year 'round. I've been in serious paring-down mode recently (trying to figure out my life!) and my dress collection got reduced to 3 black Eileen Fishers. One very casual (worn with bare feet); one plain t-shirt style that skews "business lady" from the neck up (for Zoom calls); and a linen one formal enough to wear anywhere I'd like to look respectful: An interview, wedding or a funeral (because I'm so done with suits). I'm a cool-complexioned woman who keeps a tan going, so black looks good on me, especially with silver-and-diamond jewelry. In summer, the fabric needs to be breezy and some skin needs to show.
I recently bought that Four Objects dress, and it is gorgeous and dreamy. My only (minor) quibble with it is that I really need to be thoughtful about accessorizing to prevent it from looking like a salon cape. It's a truly great dress and one of my favorite recent purchases!
That is so funny. I just bought 3 vintage pieces of Flax, (look unworn!) on Poshmark for the summer. I am addicted to the fact the label gives you affirmations. The last one said. “I love my body, I love myself.”
I had to laugh at this post - I already own that JCrew linen cabana dress, the COS sculpted dress was ordered last week - and I STILL immediately went and ordered the Tuckernuck polo dress!

You are NOT crazy. We’re close in age (70+) and I bought a pair of Ralph Lauren boys’ patchwork madras pants that I love. They’re still in stock and on sale. https://www.ralphlauren.com/boys-clothing-pants/patchwork-cotton-madras-pant/0078651197.html?

While I can no longer wear black (I look like death warmed over) I found that Tuckernuck dress in red is OUTSTANDING. A perfect chef's kiss red!

I love a black summer dress :-)
Speaking of direct access to my brain: This post appeared as I was in a black linen dress on my way to a funeral.

All nice but my faves are the nice and simple Eileen Fisher, flutter-sleeve Tuckernuck and button-front Quince.

I love the black linen caftan! Yesterday I wore a Banana Republic Factory (!) dress that was perfect except no pockets: https://share.icloud.com/photos/00emOQGWaxBPYxoFeyaTOFhpQ

Does Kim have direct access to my brain?
That last silk dress 🤩
How about some long sleeves? Sun protection, hiding crepe?
Ive been avoiding black lately but I did buy a black linen midi dress from universal standard.
