My problem with bags is that I like the way many of them look, but I might not like how they feel, or how they're structured inside (pockets etc) and thus I have been carrying around a black nylon belt bag for like 6 months.

Yep. I spent years wasting money on bags until about 15 years ago when I discovered the Lonchamp Le Pliage in black leather, which I can carry as a cross body if I need to. Still looks new. And last Christmas my husband surprised me with a Parker Thatch sling bag, which is a brilliant piece. They cover just about anything I need to do or places I need to go.

You are doing the Lord's work here Kim. Every bag is a winner. I think the Longchamp bag will be my choice to replace a 15 year old waxed cotton tote but I am very tempted by the Clare V.

I bought the woven Madewell bag for my sister for Christmas and it was very, very hard not to keep it for myself. Photos do not do it justice. It is GORGEOUS in person.

You all will think I am terribly uncool, but I'll say it anyway. Kate Spade bags are well made, the pockets are the right size and in the right place, and some of the colors are great. Some of them are ridiculously cutesy, but the classic shapes are good.

After decades of using a Longchamp Le Pliage bag (and still delighting -- every time -- in the origami way it folds up), I branched out to their leather bags. I love the Le Foulonne line, with its pebbled leather, and now the Roseau line has caught my eye. If you like a structured, very well made bag, take a look, via the Longchamp website.

I remember in the early aughts when it seemed like every city working girl was carrying a Longchamp tote (or else, a very close copy of it). I guess, it's all truly back, along with the flats and wide leg trousers.

They'll have to pry my Longchamp Le Pliage in black leather from my cold, dead hands. Best bag ever. Been tempted many times by a vintage Roseau, which come up on TRR on occasion, but I realized that if I can't strap a bag to me as a sling or cross body, it doesn't do me much good LOL.

I have the smaller version of the Clare V bag in black and it is absolutely perfect. I’m used to carrying a tote (NYC!) and it’s so nice to be able to just grab the essentials and keep a little baggu tucked in there in case I need extra room. I can even fit a water bottle in it if I need. PS I have had some of those longchamp le pliage totes since the 90s! They hold up beautifully and never go out of style

Yes, I fully agree re Clare V.

I am currently carrying the Clare V Moyen bag in black & white check, and it’s pretty perfect.

I’ve always thought Longchamp was cool too…the leather covered pipes are covetable even if you don’t need one. The blue Clare V bag has my attention 🧐

I love all these bags. Thank you for taking time to curate a well rounded selection. I'm sorry you pulled your hair out doing so. Lol!

I didn’t know until I saw it, but now I must have the Clare V Moyen Messenger in that “forget about the green one” shade of blue! Since I no longer work in an office, I rarely wear medium to large sized handbags. Lately I just squeeze the holy trinity (phone, keys & wallet) into a tiny crossbody bag, so if I get that Moyen sac, i can squeeze in lip gloss, mints and supermarket receipts! 💙

I wish I could talk myself into carrying non-crossbody bags so I could buy one of the gorgeous bags here. Having grown up in NYC in the bad old days, when purse-snatchings were a fact of life, I just don't feel right with anything else...plus I find crossbody bags more comfortable. I've wanted the Madewell woven bag for a long time, though. And the J. Crew one is very much my style.

The Clare V one has a crossbody strap as well.

Do you change your handbag with your outfits, or with the seasons, or by task of the day/need, or when you get a new one, or a combination of these? I ask my mother if she was going to carry a different handbag to a wedding; the way she looked at me like I was crazy was surprising. She had on a dress and sandals but was carrying a nylon sporty graphic print hobo style bag. Am I the crazy one here? I change my bag regularly.

I change by season with the occasional outing-specific swap

I am surprised at how much I love that leather suede bag from J.Crew. Not usually my style, but the color is divine! And, yes, bags are a troubling accessory. We all have our pickiness, but these you've chosen are pretty spot on!
