I am one of those people whose mood is profoundly affected by the weather—it’s no coincidence I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, given the overall grayness and wetness of things around here. We’re having a couple of beautiful, sparkling days right now, but rain will be back soon enough, like probably on Thursday, and I prefer to be prepared. A cheerful umbrella always puts a little spring in my step, and this one from Marimekko is just about perfect. It also retracts to small enough to fit in an average-sized handbag.
And how fun is this bright one from Dusen Dusen?
A lightweight puffer is a good idea on chilly morning dog walks, and I like this one because it’s water-resistant and comes in a veritable ton of good colors. It’s also packable.
A nice long anorak for when it’s really coming down.
I prefer a short trench to a longer one, and this one is just great.
Another short trench, with a nice, boxy (but not too boxy) shape.
An outdoorsy take on the classic yellow rain slicker.
This relaxed jacket rings in at just under $80, but for sure looks pricier.
You can’t go too far wrong with a classic waxed canvas Barbour Beadnell jacket.
As for footwear, I’m quite intrigued by this clog, which comes in several other good colors and looks like it’s pretty comfy.
A rugged pair of waterproof Chelsea boots, from L.L. Bean.
I very much enjoy the chunkiness of this option.
And finally, for when it’s raining so lightly that an umbrella would be overkill, this cute, water resistant bucket hat.
If I may do a brief suggestion from my little stationery & gift shop - I’m really hoping to see these fun iridescent umbrellas out and about. I do ship 😊

Short trench coats seem to be having a moment and I'm there for it. I look dumpy in a regular trench coat so one that's waist length (or a tad longer) seems a good option. Now if I could just find one that is not olive green or beige (horrible colors against my skin) I'd be enTRENCHed in heaven (see what I did there?) By the way, the Washington Post had an article on having your colors done. The two big takeaways for me: can't rely on an app for getting your colors done it's something that should be done in person and even then it's subjective and colors have to be revisited now and again because of hair going grey etc.
