Awake around 6:30a, check my phone to see if Trump is dead yet then continue doomscrolling. Up at 7. Feed the cat, the birds and the squirrels (yeah I'm one of those dummies that started something that now I can't stop). Vitamins & coffee. Most weekdays I squeeze in a 30min workout at home (try @tulumtrainer - she's fabulous). WFH 3 days a week, in office 2 days. I listen to books on the Libby app (free!) on my drive in. Currently listening to Bobbi Brown's memoir. Happy Thursday folks! Spoiler alert - he's still alive.
After 40 years as a west coast stockbroker with a 4:30 alarm I now make no plans prior to 10am and am finally getting used to a morning with nothing I have to do…heaven.
Up at 7:30-ish, make double-espresso, sip it slowly by the window. Do not read news for mental health reasons. Eat homemade overnite oats mixed with granola. Check out Kim’s Substack. Do not read news for digestive reasons. Husband enters kitchen, attempts to read front page news to me. I leave kitchen to take a long shower. For sanity reasons.
Alarm at 6:30 and usually extra woken up by my 21-year-old kitty wanting her breakfast. Turn on coffee (set up the night before) and while that brews I feed the kitty her breakfast and meds. Snuggle in bed with the kitty, coffee and smoothie (made the night before), also checking to see if Trump is dead, then doing the Wordle and Connections. Then it's dressed, hair, makeup, shovel litterbox (twice a day; she pees a lot these days), out the door around 8:20.
Re #2, I always think of what Karl said to Tom on Succession: "You're a clumsy interloper and no one trusts you. The only guy pulling for you is dead. .... And you are fair and squarely fucked."
6 or 630, bother husband to make coffee. Stew about the world, read Substack and NYT, figure out if I need to do something for my own Substack. One or two days a week go to the day job, sigh. Oh and usually walk to work, about two miles from my uptown DC townhouse to my downtown DC office. Near the White House which alternately stinks or is cool depending on whoever is in office.
Weekday routine is boring: Wake up around 5:30 thanks to menopause. Don't actually get out of bed until 7:45. I'll alternate between reading (right now, Holly Madison's memoir about living at the Playboy mansion - I love trash) and just lying there trying to fall back to sleep. Get up, make my giant coffee with foamed milk, feed cats, and start working, which in reality involves reading all my fun Substacks for the first 45 minutes. My weekend routine is more fun. I get up around 8, turn on one of my favorite radio programs (often the cover songs show on WFMU), light my candles and incense, and sit in my craft corner working on whatever I happen to be working on (right now, knitting my first sweater) overlooking the courtyard. Sometimes my morning routine ends up taking up the whole day.
up by 7:30 or 8:00, feed & water the dogs, the cat, the foster kittens, and then at least an hour of reading emails, news, etc. and coffee. All this is done in stony silence ( my husband and I are NOT morning people) Then it’s dog walking time and the day is launched!
If I’m working out with weights, I get up around 7. I also get up at 7 on Sunday to do an early grocery shopping run with my neighbor. Otherwise, I get up around 8ish, then coffee, soduko & the crossword puzzle. I try to do a 3-4 mile walk/hike 4-5 times a week. Mahjong with the neighbors once a week. If I have appointments, I plan them to avoid rush hour traffic, which is almost all day long!
Up anywhere between 5 and 5:30 depending on whether hubs is home to help with the pup 🐶. Quick routine unless it’s cold and I need to diffuse the hair instead of air dry. Walk pup come back drink water, coffee, breakfast, take pup to daycare and be at work by 6:45. Outfit is easy since I wear a uniform black joggers and T-shirt (pilates studio owner instructor)and sneakers. Figure out when will be my break to get in my hill walk (roughly an hour unless I need to break it up due to client schedule) day starts with first client at 7:30. Sneak in more movement whenever time allows. Sneak in a little reading whoever I have a break (current read: The Women of chateau Lafayette. Very good yet very long. I think next up may have to be Strangers) I’m either keeping myself young or killing myself fast I haven’t taken the time to figure out which….😂😂😂 hope everyone out here is having a great day.
If its a work day, I am awake at the ungodly hour of 3-430am. I live in Northern California and work east coast hours. I've been doing this for 25yrs and waking up at that time of day still isn't any easier than it was when I started. Weekends I 'sleep in' until anywhere from 530-630. Oy.
M-F: alarm at 6:30am, shower, get dressed, make and eat breakfast, drink tea, take meds, slap on spf, look at email, leave for work. During breaks, add in making lunch (otherwise I eat on campus). Listen to loud music in car during 12-minute commute
Weekend: usually sleep till 8am, get up, make breakfast, drink tea, take meds, start laundry. I'm more of an afternoon/evening person
I’m not working right now but I’m trying to stick to a routine. I’m usually up by 7:30. I get my coffee and check my email and Instagram and Substack while watching the news. Breakfast. Then I go into my office and do job search activities if I’m feeling disciplined.
the sunlight lamp (w/ birds chirping) wakes me up around 6.30 (I cannot recommend this enough), I check the phone to see if he's dead & read about all the craziness that's happened in the US (I'm in Korea), make eggs & oatmeal, drink my cold brew while reading more news, check instagram, then it's time for a weight workout at home or yoga in the neighborhood studio.
I try to wake up by 5:00am or 5:30am to run or do some type of workout. I much prefer running in the morning than running after work. After that, our morning routine is breakfast for us and our pups while we do our NYT games: Connections, The Mini, The Midi, Strands, and Letter Boxed. I have found, though, that if I don't have to work or be up at a certain time, I tend to naturally wake up between 6:30am - 7:00am. I cannot wait for the day when I no longer have to set an alarm!
I get up around six and have gotten one of those devices that locks whatever apps you want to block until you go downstairs and manually unlock it, so I usually try to find an artistic or creative or history-based podcast to listen to while I get ready and not check my work email until I’m at the office. I succeed about half the time. I also tried not listening to NPR news first thing in the morning bc ✨the horrors✨ but now I feel less informed. Not sure what to do about that.

Ooohhh Bobbi Brown’s memoir? Nice.

You all realize that #2(how apt) will need to keel over also...

Now THAT is what I hope will be perfect foreshadowing for what's to come. Fantastic apropos quote from a fabulous show. Cheers @HeatherW

I’m up by 5, at work by 6:30ish. I need to get my walk in before heading in. When I did that, my whole day was better.
