It is my theory that these can be more flattering than button-downs, perhaps because the silhouette is typically somewhat more voluminous, and therefore also more forgiving. This white one is perfectly crisp and summery, and has such a good, slouchy fit.
I do love a good gingham shirt, and this one is really too cute.
This rather appealingly comes off like a popover/peasant shirt hybrid.
I always like a good variegated stripe pattern.
A spiff organic cotton choice from Eileen Fisher, who continues to surprise.
A cool denim option that I’m pretty sure I’d wear on repeat.
This one comes in a number of good striped iterations, as well as white, if you’re interested.
I always like a grey stripe, and I dig the smocking detail too.
An Irish linen short-sleeve shirt that I also like in this French blue.
This washed linen shirt looks nicely worn in.
And finally, a chic little chambray choice.

I love popovers because I never have to worry about them gapping at the bust. Button-downs look more polished, IMO, but popovers can still look sharp. I own the J. Crew Irish linen one in brown, and it's fab. Definitely eyeing the gray striped one from The Shirt!
These are cute, but on a short, pear-shaped person, upper-body voluminous is really tricky to get right.
