What’s your most unexpected—but helpful—packing tip?
Don’t be afraid to check a bag. The I-only-ever-carry-on thing is nonsense. Yes, if you’re going away for a few days you should fit it all in a weekend bag, but if you’re traveling for longer, just bring what you need and relax. So what if you have to wait 15 minutes for the suitcase at the airport? You’ll be happy you packed a heavy sweater when it gets cold at the beach. I also check because I hate jostling for overhead space on the plane and lugging a suitcase through the airport.
Bonus tip: Notwithstanding the above advice, when you set aside everything you think you’ll need, only take half of it. You’ll end up wearing the same few things over and over anyway, and you’ll end up with room for souvenir napkins and caftans.
