Friday Q&A + Links
Today we chat with Oldster's Sari Botton, and we're learning about Barbra's new memoir—and so much more—in the links
Sari Botton, 58, has made a career out of creating content that people like me want to consume. She had the enviable job of being the essays editor of Longreads for five years, and she’s behind several books, including her latest, And You May Find Yourself…Confessions Of a Late-Blooming Gen X Weirdo, which (deservedly) earned her a place on Poets & Writers magazine’s “5 over 50” list for 2022. It’s just a really inspiring read, sensitive and smart. A great choice if you’re looking to make peace with the ways in which your life has played out differently than you thought it might.
Sari also founded the great Oldster newsletter, where she interviews a compelling variety of people about aging, a topic she’s been fascinated by since childhood. Oldster also publishes essays by both noted and emerging voices. She runs the Substack newsletters Memoir Land and Adventures in Journalism too.
She’s also just a really cool person—generous with her time, thoughtful, and kind. I knew her vaguely through work for a long time, but in recent years I’ve had reason to get to know her a bit more, and I’m a fan.
