Given the fact that there is a fortune to be made from catering to them, I’m always shocked that there aren’t more or better options for those who wear above a size 12. I know I could do better covering this category myself, so I shouldn’t get righteous. But I don’t know what makes those in charge think you just automatically don’t care about looking cool and put-together if you fit in this category. Still, the situation is slowly improving, with brands like Mango stepping up to offer a nice portion of their pieces, like this cute polka dot dress, in a broader range of sizes.
Universal Standard is just the best: well-priced, fun, and chic in a minimal way. They also offer pretty much everything in sizes from 00 to 38-40. I bought their popular (and flattering!) Geneva dress in this striped iteration before my trip to Europe last summer, and wore it constantly.
For something fancier (and pricier), I like Marina Rinaldi; this linen shift dress could be dressed way up or down, and I like it here with trousers, which is a look I don’t typically go for.
Those in need of a pretty party dress would do well to check out Reformation, which carries a selection of their pieces in sizes up to 24 (I do, alas, wish more of their excellent dresses had sleeves). This lace inset dress also comes in black, but the white is so sweet and summery.
I like Madewell’s denim selection; they don’t offer all of it in extended sizes, but they do offer a lot, including these cool straight cropped jeans.
For lingerie, check out Savage X Fenty—sizes go up to 4x, and the pieces, like these panties, are sexy but also wearable.
La Ligne offers a varied selection of clothes, but I like them best for sweaters, like this cool striped one, which comes in a ton of good color combinations.
Old Navy is another good source for (dirt cheap) denim; I like the clean, un-distressed wash on these high-waisted jeans.
Good American was co-founded by a Kardashian, but don’t hold that against it: you can find nice, trendy-but-not-too-trendy items like this faux leather blazer at a fair price.
Anthropologie has really upped their game in this category, and I found a lot to like, including these wide-leg pants, which come in a ton of good shades.
I'm 5'9" and wear size 16 -- I often size up to Plus in tops for that extra slouch factor. IMO, Eileen Fisher's clothing range is the best for plus sizes now -- every single item is available in both regular and plus, for no extra charge. Granted, I love the simple, elegant, minimal styles that might not appeal to everyone.
Thank you for this! I think one of the best ways to promote body diversity would be to always post size ranges when you post a clothing item. So many times I've clicked through to one of your linked tops, only to be disappointed the sizing only goes up to an L. It's a practice we stick to in a lot of plus size communities I am in, and it's really helpful.
As far as brands go, I love Tuesdays of California (xxs-7x), Dressed in Lala (xs-3x), Loud Bodies (2xs-10XL - GOLD STARS FOR THESE GUYS), Nettle's Tale (XS-4x), Tamara Males (2-36), and Curator SG (XS-4X).
